Earlier Visibility into Organisational Stability
Leadership teams monitor financial performance, operational resilience, customer outcomes and enterprise risk through a wide range of established metrics. Yet many of these indicators become meaningful only after organisational strain has already begun to affect delivery, productivity, absence or employee turnover.
This raises an important governance question:
Do organisations have sufficient early visibility into how organisational stability is changing?
The Challenge
Most organisations already possess extensive management information through operational dashboards, HR systems, engagement surveys and risk reporting. These tools remain essential for understanding what has happened and where intervention is required.
However, most are designed to explain what has already happened rather than what may be emerging.
By the time deterioration becomes visible through delivery delays, absence, attrition or declining productivity, the organisation has often already incurred operational and financial cost.
Our Perspective
We believe organisational stability should be considered alongside financial, operational and risk indicators when making executive decisions.
Existing management information remains essential. The question is whether leadership could benefit from an additional governance indicator that provides continuous visibility into how organisational stability is changing between periodic engagement surveys and executive reporting.
Equally important, could it help leadership monitor the organisational impact of management interventions without waiting for the next engagement survey or reporting cycle?
Why Now?
Increasing organisational change, AI adoption, restructuring and evolving workforce expectations are placing greater demands on leadership teams.
As organisations become more dynamic, earlier visibility into emerging organisational strain may become an increasingly important leadership capability.
Performance Resilience Indicator (PRI)
PRI explores whether leadership can gain earlier visibility into how organisational stability is changing over time.
It is not intended to diagnose organisational issues or replace existing management information. Instead, PRI is designed to indicate that organisational stability may be changing, prompting further investigation using the tools and data organisations already have.
PRI complements existing management information through four measures:
- Workforce Capacity
- Forward Stability
- Trend
- Signal Coverage
Together these provide leadership with an additional perspective on organisational stability, helping organisations detect change, guide further investigation and monitor recovery following management action, while preserving employee privacy through fully aggregated reporting.
Questions for Discussion
We are currently exploring three questions with board members and senior executives.
Do leadership teams receive sufficiently early visibility of emerging organisational strain, or do current indicators become actionable only after operational impact is already visible?
If leadership had access to a reliable indicator of organisational stability, would it enable different or earlier management decisions during periods of change, growth or operational pressure?
Is organisational stability sufficiently important that it should be monitored explicitly as part of board governance, rather than inferred indirectly from operational, financial and HR metrics?
Join the Discussion
We are currently seeking perspectives from CEOs, Board Members, CROs, COOs, CHROs/CPOs and Transformation Leaders across different sectors.
Where there is mutual interest, organisations may subsequently choose to participate in a pilot to evaluate whether PRI provides meaningful additional insight alongside existing management information.
If these questions resonate with you, we would welcome the opportunity to talk.
